The Bottom Line of Her Road to Entrepreneurship

Spanx

A Montage of Atlanta, GA
A Montage of Atlanta, GA (USA)
Hello, Everyone! By now, Friends, you've probably heard about Spanx foundation/under-garments, based in my hometown,  Atlanta, GA. However, you may not know of the not-so-smooth path, its Founder, Sara Blakely took to launch her business, nor where the idea for Spanx originated. In the video, here, she shares details that may surprise you, since her business is so great and the product is so beloved. For example, she hadn't taken any business classes, never worked in fashion nor retail and had been selling fax machines door-to-door, at the time! Did you know that due to the pricey cost of having a patent attorney write her patent, she read a book on the subject and then wrote her own patent for Spanx?  Have you heard her funny story about "lycra", "lacquer", and a deeply-Southern accent. Have you heard why she chose new-to-the-industry, bright-red packaging, and three animated/illustrated females on the packaging for Spanx?  Did you know about the year and a half of bad names, including /Open-toed Delilahs', and how the name "Spanx" came to her?  She shares all of that in this video.

I thought it would be great to share this video because in the process of telling her story, we hear that the path to accomplishing an entrepreneurial heart's desire can be unusual and a faith-walk in which one, literally, figures out what to do as a step is taken. Sara Blakely thought about her product and what she wanted to achieve with it, and for it, and took steps of action in those directions. She believed in the concept so much that what could have been dream-killers / heart's-desires-killers did not stop her from moving forward!  That is a great lessen and attitude toward dream-killers.

Successfully Embrace the Struggles You Face: Follow Zig Ziglar's Example

You Can Embrace the Struggles You Face: Follow Zig Ziglar's Example

Embrace the Struggle: Living Life on Life's Terms
'Embrace the Struggle'
by Zig Ziglar &
Julie Ziglar Norman

Hello, Everyone!

Today's post features a video from Embrace the Struggle site about an experience Zig Ziglar went through, using principles he's been teaching others for year, to overcome successfully.  He and his daughter, Julie Ziglar Norman co-authored a book with the same title, 'Embrace the Struggle: Living Life on Life's Terms' which tells Zig's story.  Among other things that Zig Ziglar is famous for are his positivity quotes, and he practices what he preaches/teaches to others to achieve, succeed, survive and thrive, the right way!

Specifically, the book features:  One of the leading stars in the "positive thinking" movement, Zig Ziglar, who has made a career out of telling people how to have a positive attitude, no matter what their circumstances are.  When a fall down a stairway onto a marble floor (in March 2007) leaves Zig with a head injury, he is challenged with how to put the principles he's been speaking to others about into practice for himself.  Zig Ziglar's willingness to be transparent got him writing and speaking again with a renewed energy, before audiences (in the tens of thousands) to show that life on life's terms is still well worth living.  This book, 'Embrace the Struggle' affirms the validity of the principles Zig has held true his entire life and includes not only his account of living positively through difficult circumstances, it includes heart-warming stories of real people who encouraged him with how they put into practice these vital principles he's taught, as well.

As we go through the challenges that we are/everyone is facing aroung the world, now, we may need encouragement to not give up and know that we can succeed in spite of them.  Know that when life circumstances seem like they are trying to beat you up and destroy you, you do not have to give up, despair and let them win!  If you need an example, let Zig Ziglar's life example encourage and inspire you, as well as the stories of those that have already been encouraged and inspired by Zig's life of positivity lessons.

Below are editorial reviews of this book to give you an idea of the impact of its contents on other people.

" "For decades Zig Ziglar has been a champion of positive thinking. On the sixty-ninth anniversary of his twenty-first birthday, he declared he was 'refiring' rather than retiring. And despite a brain injury that's left him with short-term memory loss, he's still fired up. Anyone facing tough circumstances will find comfort and inspiration in Zig's encouraging message." -- Ken Blanchard, coauthor, The One Minute Manager® and Lead Like Jesus

"Zig Ziglar's Embrace the Struggle, written with his daughter Julie, is timely reading for me. As my wife and I grow older we know we will have to leave our home, where we have lived for over fifty years. But with Zig's guidance we can Embrace our Struggle with energy and with hope." -- John Sherrill, roving editor, Guideposts magazine

"My mood-swing patients who listen to Ziglar the most do the best. Embrace the Struggle is for everyone who faces challenges, whether medical or from life's stressors. Facing an unpleasant reality with a positive attitude can make all the difference. Zig explains his highly successful approach to traumatic brain injury with courage, common sense, and his usual humor." -- Leland M. Heller, MD

"Zig Ziglar understands life including its struggles and setbacks. If you want to live an abundant life by embracing all that God gives -- read this book written by one of the greatest Christians I've ever known." -- Jack Graham, pastor, Prestonwood Baptist Church

"Zig has one more valuable lesson to teach each of us. Living in the moment, right now, with the people you love and for a cause you believe in -- this is what matters. He is an inspiration and a national treasure, and each of us is better off because Zig Ziglar cares about making the world a better place." -- Seth Godin, author, Tribes " ~ Amazon.com

"You can have everything in life you want if you will
just help enough other people get what they want." ~ Zig Ziglar

A Positive Mindset Facilitates Achievement of Goals, Dreams, & Heart's Desires

Blissful March 2009, Everyone! When the current state of an economy is bleak, especially as it appears in the United States today, it can be quite challenging to focus on anything else, and particularly to focus on achieving goals for your life. Nevertheless, the fact remains that achieving life goals in 2009 is quite possible; quite achievable. One of my goals is to be an encourager and inspire others to focus on the positive(s), rather than the negative(s). In doing so, I will share information about resources and tools you may choose to utilize to achieve your goals, particularly in 2009.

To facilitate achieving goals, one of the main things everyone needs to do on a regular basis is to think about that which is good, pure, beautiful, healthy, joyful, beneficial, peaceful and blissful; the positive. Negativity is garbage to the mind, body & soul. As many of you may already know this great idea of thinking positively is not new; it is mentioned in the Scripture in Philippians 4:8 KJV.

To think positively, think about things you’ve seen, heard or experienced that match those adjectives I’ve mentioned above and other great ones that come to your mind. Then, do this type of controlled thinking regularly until it becomes natural for you.

The state of your mind, via your words and your thoughts will “flavor” what you say about yourself; your self-esteem is impacted by your thoughts. Your thoughts impact the degree of belief that you have in yourself that you can (or cannot) achieve your goals. Our thoughts impact our self-confidence.

As you begin to recondition your mind to become significantly more positive, you may wish to have a tool to assist yourself. I’ve experienced books (with positive themes, of course) to be great tools for conditioning the mind to positive thoughts. Reading the proper material is a great way to nourish the mind in positivity and get the focus off of the garbage of negativity. Specifically, some of the tools are the Holy Bible (to be read with a prayer for enlightenment and clarity) a great book collection you gather, and two positivity tools, Inspiration and Motivation.

Preparing yourself with a mindset focused on the positive(s) establishes a great foundation to achieve your goals, dreams, and heart’s desires upon. This all follows the saying, “If you think you CAN, you will. If you think you CANNOT, you will not”. It can be that easy to start, the choice is yours. Be a “CAN”!
